Chronicle: What are the risks of playing one week after concussion?

Williams: “There is no specific time limit or expected time away from play after concussion. Recovery is extremely individual (and can vary within an individual who has had more than one concussion). The highest risk of repeat concussion is in the first 10 days after a concussion. Having said that, the real question isn’t related to the risks of playing one week after concussion, but should be framed as the risk of playing prior to recovery from a concussion. Return to play prior to resolution/recovery results in an increased risk of a second concussion.
