Training the Brain for Enhanced Sports Performance
Sports Neurology
The brain, which is our most powerful organ, can be strengthened through
regular training. In fact, a strong brain can help to stave off some degenerative
conditions later in life. You can do quite a bit to improve your brain
function with help from expert neurologists.
By training the brain, you can improve and enhance:
- Sports performance
- Memory
- Cognitive processes
- Self-esteem
Don't know how to train your brain? Below are some great tips for training
the brain! I, Dr. Williams, hope you find them useful.
Practice Memory Exercises
You can improve your memory when you start training the brain with some
different memory exercises. These are easy to create on your own. For
example, you can memorize a list of facts about states, artists, and the
like. You can also memorize a new song each day, or memorize a poem. Instead
of relying on your GPS systems, look at a map and memorize your route
to a new grocery store or any other location.
Reading Really is Fundamental
Reading is one of the best ways to help reduce stress and it happens to
improve the quality of your brain. When you read nonfiction, you are adding
more facts to your memory, but don't forget just how important fiction
is too. It helps to boost imagination and creativity. When you read a
book, your brain actually paints the words into pictures inside of your
head, meaning there is no such thing as a book without pictures.
Try Something New When Training the Brain
Instead of going through the same routines, a great way to start training
the brain is to start something new that you've never done before.
It forces the brain to make new connections and neural pathways. It can
be something as simple as putting together a model, learning a new language,
or training in a martial art.
Learn to Concentrate
Practice focusing your attention on something, whether it is an object,
event, conversation or activity. People today tend to have very short
attention spans, and this is affecting their brain performance. A huge
part of training the brain is learning to focus. Paying close attention
to the details of a conversation or your surroundings will allow you to
see and understand the world in new ways.
Talk With the Right People
If the people you talk to regularly are only interested in sitting in front
of the television and don't have anything stimulating to add to a
conversation other than the winner of the latest reality show competition,
it might be time to broaden your group of friends. Finding others who
have interesting things to say and who are doing interesting things can
be great for your social life. It can also be a challenge for your brain
to keep up with these other people that present a great opportunity for
engaging your brain in new ways.
Eating Right and Exercising
While most people don't realize it, the foods you put into your body
and the amount of exercise you get can play a huge role in just how fit
your brain is. By training your body, you can simultaneously start training
your brain. It actually enhances neurogenesis, the process by which your
body creates new cells in the brain.
